Skylar Codie - Exploring Global Healthcare Through Study Abroad Opportunities 

    On August 22nd, I attended a study abroad informational session hosted by the Health Careers Program, and it was an incredibly insightful experience. As a freshman biology major, I wanted to explore how I can begin immersing myself in opportunities that will help me grow both academically and professionally in the healthcare field. This session gave me a clear understanding of the various study abroad programs available for the upcoming spring and summer, as well as the requirements and application processes involved. What stood out to me most was how these programs allow students to experience healthcare systems from a global perspective. Learning about how healthcare operates in other parts of the world—compared to the U.S.—was eye-opening. It helped me realize that medicine is not just about science and treatment, but also about culture, accessibility, and the values different societies place on health and wellness. Attending this session also gave me a better idea of how the Health Careers Program study abroad trips are structured. From shadowing professionals abroad to engaging in community health projects, the opportunities offered provide a meaningful way to apply what we learn in the classroom to real-world settings. Overall, this session inspired me to take advantage of these programs in the future and continue seeking experiences that broaden my perspective on global healthcare.
