Scholarship Dinner with President Rosalind Brewer - Abigail Arnett
Attending the scholarship dinner with President Rosalind Brewer was a moment that made everything feel real. Sitting in Reynolds Cottage surrounded by other scholars, I felt proud, grateful, and affirmed. For the first time, it truly hit me that I received this scholarship — and that it wasn’t just by chance. I was chosen for a reason.
Being in that space with President Brewer and hearing her speak about leadership and purpose reminded me that I’m here because someone saw potential in me that I need to continue seeing in myself. This dinner reinforced my belief that I’m at Spelman for a purpose — not only to learn, but to grow into someone who can make a difference in the lives of others.
What stood out most to me was how the evening symbolized recognition and belonging. It helped me fight off self-doubt by reminding me that my hard work is seen and that my goals are valid. The experience made me want to keep pushing toward my purpose with even more drive and gratitude.
In the photos I’ve included — from my picture with President Brewer to the dinner table and the certificate — I see more than just memories. I see proof of what belief and opportunity look like when they come together. This night encouraged me to carry that sense of affirmation into everything I do, both as a Spelman student and as a future physician committed to serving others with purpose.
