Sankofa & Science: Learning from Medical Apartheid (Class of 2028)
On September 30th, I joined the Social Justice Program's Health Advocacy Initiative at the presentation on the book Medical Apartheid by Harriet A. Washington. Through this event, I engaged in necessary conversations regarding medical mistrust, the history of medical malpractice in the U.S., and potential changes to the medical education system.
Not only did I engage in conversation, but I also connected with peers within my discipline (Sociology and Anthropology) and outside of it, such as Economics, who shared similar aspirations of working in the fields of public health and medicine. I'm very excited to continue engaging with the Health Advocacy Initiative throughout the school year as they continue to educate and encourage students to share their valuable perspectives on the interdisciplinary field of public health.
