Presenting at a career-related workshop or conference - BLK HLTH Cares, Class of 2027
On September 20, at the BLK HLTH Cares Health Equity event at MSM, I delivered a presentation highlighting my journey and research as part of the Black Health Fellowship, emphasizing the urgent need to address systemic inequities in healthcare that disproportionately affect Black communities. My talk explored the intersection of oral health and overall well-being, underscoring how disparities in access to dental care contribute to broader health outcomes. Drawing from my fellowship experiences, I discussed both the barriers and opportunities within healthcare systems, including the importance of culturally competent care, community-based interventions, and pipeline programs that prepare the next generation of Black health professionals. I also shared insights from shadowing experiences, research projects, and community engagement initiatives that reinforced my commitment to advancing health equity through dentistry.
The presentation aimed not only to inform but also to inspire action, encouraging attendees to think critically about how healthcare can become more equitable and inclusive. By centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, I highlighted how meaningful progress requires collaboration, advocacy, and leadership from within. Ultimately, my fellowship and this presentation reaffirmed my dedication to using my career in dentistry as a tool for justice, equity, and long-term community wellness.
Thank you!
