NaDae Ingham (Class of 2027) - Summer Internship with Hope Healthcare
During my internship with Hope Healthcare, I assisted with tasks such as scheduling patient appointments, shadowing cardiology, pulmonology, and gastric consults, observing pulmonary function tests and ultrasound scans, and working with patient documentation and medical equipment. I collaborated with healthcare professionals and gained firsthand exposure to how different departments work together to provide quality patient care.
This experience was both exciting and challenging. I especially enjoyed learning how patient care extends beyond the exam room, from administrative efficiency to hands-on medical procedures. It was sometimes overwhelming to keep up with the pace of clinical work, but it helped me grow more adaptable and attentive to detail.
I connected this to my coursework in public health and chemistry, since I was able to see how concepts like physiology, respiration, and even biochemistry play out in patient care and medical testing.
On a deeper level, the internship emphasised the importance of communication, empathy, and teamwork in medicine. It broadened my perspective on how healthcare systems function and motivated me to think critically about how to improve patient experiences.
This opportunity contributed to my personal growth by strengthening my professionalism and preparing me for a future in medicine. I learned that I am capable of balancing responsibility with compassion, which is a skill I plan to carry into my career. Moving forward, I aim to apply these lessons to both academic projects and future clinical roles.
