Morehouse College Human Rights Film Festival (2pts)
In September, I attended the 2025 Morehouse College Human Rights Film Festival for the screening of Ralph Lauren’s short film "A Portrait of the American Dream: Oak Bluffs". The event highlighted the new Polo Ralph Lauren for Oak Bluffs collection, which celebrates the historic Black community in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. During the post-screening discussion, Morehouse and Spelman alumni James Jeter and Dara Douglas reflected on how their college experiences influenced their creative process and inspired this collaboration. They spoke about the early stages of developing the partnership, how their time in college shaped their vision of “the dream of a better life,” and how the Oak Bluffs project brings that idea to life. The collection itself honors community, heritage, and timeless collegiate style, blending coastal leisurewear with designs that pay tribute to the legacies of Morehouse and Spelman. It captures the spirit of Oak Bluffs; a haven for generations of Black families, scholars, and travelers. Listening to James and Dara share how their personal journeys and memories shaped this project made the screening especially meaningful.
