Lola Chiza - Leadership role in an academic organization: 3 points

Serving as Co-Social Chair for the Morehouse-Spelman Pre-Law Society has been one of the most rewarding parts of my college experience so far. In this role, I help plan events that bring together students who are interested in pursuing law, whether through mixers, study sessions, or casual discussions about current legal issues. One thing I’ve learned through this position is how important community is when preparing for such a demanding path. Law school prep can be stressful, and creating spaces where students can unwind and connect reminded me that support systems are just as essential as academic preparation. It also shifted how I think about leadership. I’ve realized it’s not just about being in charge, but about making people feel comfortable and included.

This position has pushed me to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve learned how to collaborate with different personalities, manage event logistics, and think creatively about ways to make our organization more engaging. I also discovered that I really enjoy planning and organizing events that bring people together, which has helped me strengthen my communication and time-management skills.

I plan to carry what I’ve learned in this role into other areas of my life by continuing to lead with empathy and intention. Whether I’m in a future legal setting or another professional space, I want to keep creating environments where people feel connected, supported, and motivated to reach their goals.
