LEADERSHIP ROLE IN AN ACADEMIC ORGANIZATION (3 POINTS) - (ALI ASKEW CLASS OF 2028)
In my freshman year, I participated as a member of Spelman College’s ASL Club. I volunteered at events around Atlanta, interacted with deaf and hard-of-hearing people, and applied the signs I had learned in the classroom to the real world. During the Spring 2025 semester, I applied and became an intern, where I shadowed E-Board members and gained experience working under various positions. This semester, Fall 2025, I am currently Co-Publicity Chair for the organization. As Publicity Chair, I am responsible for creating eye-catching flyers for the event, making videos that recap previous events, and uploading posts that update the AUC and other Atlanta institutions, such as Georgia Tech and Georgia State, with important news.
I really enjoy my current position and the people I am surrounded by. I’ve always loved art and anything that allows me to be creative, and I believe this position allows me to express my creativity in the posts and flyers I create. I have also recently found enjoyment in making and editing videos, and as publicity chair, I have been able to work with and improve my interests. My team that I work with in the club is very supportive and uplifting. I look forward to future meetings we will meet up to work on together. I’m excited to see what the future holds for me as a member of this club.
