Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Internship (Completing an Internship- 5 Points)
Over the summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Throughout the duration of this internship, I engaged in research, professional development, networking, and intern bonding events. On the research side, I learned a great deal about election laws, mis/disinformation, and the various bills that are set to disrupt the civil rights of American constituents. As I worked with the Election Protection Team during my 10-week immersion, much of my work consisted of conducting research to help update election-related FAQ sheets for each of the 50 states and DC, alerting applicable states to different election laws that may affect voters, and creating a paper related to election misinformation and disinformation. This internship was truly eye-opening because I had never really considered the law in relation to elections. However, this process taught me about the various ways this intersection occurs and its significant impact on the rights of American citizens. As a psychology major on a pre-law track, this internship resonated deeply with me because it allowed me to explore another area of law that I had not been interested in before. Furthermore, I had opportunities for professional development and networking, as I attended various events and engaged with leadership in ways that truly focused on the next generation and helping interns thrive. As I am more on the shy side, I really appreciated a space that encouraged me to grow as a young professional. This internship was truly exceptional as I learned a lot on a topic I didn't even know would interest me, and was able to build genuine connections with my peers and leadership.
