Kamora Freeland, Attending Honors Program events: 1-2 points
I really enjoyed this event; it was extremely informative. Starting off, we saw clips of the film, which prompted me to want to continue to watch it. The conversation we had after left me feeling liberated and empowered to want to create change, but also to think of new ways to do so. We discussed the meaning of political imprisonment, the ways the prison system is designed to target and oppress black people, and how being educated can be a form of resistance. Hearing about the black women who escaped prison and fled to Cuba was especially moving to me. Overall, I left the event reflecting on how important it is for institutions like ours to serve our communities by educating others, supporting each other, etc, but there is so much more we can be doing.
