Internship & Co-Op Experiences: Completing a Paid Internship (5 points)

This summer, I had the pleasure of completing a paid internship program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in preparation for matriculation into their medical school next year. The main goal of this seven-week program was to engage in enrichment activities that would prepare us for the rigors of medical school. Some of these activities included lab safety seminars, medical biology lectures and exams, library database tutorials, and a suturing class, to name a few.

In combination with the various classes I have taken at Spelman under the health sciences department, the activities I completed during my internship helped me feel more prepared for medical school. While I understand that it is impossible to accurately anticipate and prepare for every challenge that comes with being a medical student, I am grateful that I will not enter graduate school completely blind. I was especially pleased to see that the study habits I developed during rigorous courses such as organic chemistry and human anatomy & physiology helped me develop study plans and strategies for tackling the material.

Overall, I am honored to have received this opportunity and look forward to growing even more as a student as I matriculate into medical school.
