Flora Clampet - Attending professional networking events (3 points)

On the 26th of September, I attended the LSAC Law School forum in Atlanta for students interested in attending various legal programs, including LLLM and JD programs. I spoke to representatives from the University of Michigan, University of Chicago, Fordham University, Georgetown University Law Center, Penn Carey School of Law, and Yale Law School. The one-on-one conversations were largely focused on best practices for undergraduates before beginning the law school journey, such as maintaining a high GPA, and many admissions officers emphasized taking a break between undergraduate programs and law schools. Although I was unsure if I was interested in even considering  law school beforehand, this conference interested me in going into a certain field of law, specifically legal academia. The opportunity to speak with multiple representatives from different types of law schools, especially ones that supported non-traditional fields rather than “big law” and criminal law made me realize that a law degree is a tool that can be applied to many fields outside of the boardroom and the courtroom. I want to build on this experience by continuing to research law school paths and decide what is best for my future goals and interests, but I am grateful for this opportunity as a reminder to keep all avenues open.
