Developing scholarship applications and essays (4 points)

My grandfather is a member of Coalition of Black Trade Unionists or CBTU which is an organization in New York that serves Black union workers and organizers. During his working days, he was very active in the union space and I remember days in the summer time when he would go off to work as a union organizer. This organization recently established a scholarship, the 2025 James "Jim" Bell Scholarship, which aims to assist family of CBTU  members with education costs. After my grandfather told me about it, I worked over the course of a few days to curate an essay for the scholarship application.

There were multiple prompts that could've been pursued for this application and I chose to answer a prompt about what I would do if I was president. Given our current administration, I had a lot to say regarding what actions I would take if I had the opportunity to lead this country. This process resulted in a 450 word essay outlining the three actions I would take first. There were a lot of possibilities for a prompt like this, but ultimately I thought about what has been under attack in this current administration and what could be reversed. I enjoyed this writing process because it prompted creativity and critical thinking. I hope the scholarship review board found my thoughts to be insightful and thoughtful.
