Completing An Internship (5 Points)

This summer, I completed an internship at Kostelanetz LLP in New York City and worked as a pre-law paralegal intern. Throughout the summer, I had the opportunity to work on cases and assist associates and partners at the firm. As well as, connect with the current pre-law paralegals working full-time and preparing to attend law school. I found the internship interesting as it allowed me to learn more about the different facets of the law and delve into the unique practice areas of Kostelanetz. The most challenging part of the internship was coming in with a blank slate and learning how to use their software, protocols, completing documents, and more. I leaned a lot on the current paralegal cohort to guide and assist me with tasks.

The internship contributed to my professional development by expanding my skills as a paralegal and learning how paralegal teams contribute to the success of attorney's. Additionally, throughout the summer, I assisted attorney's and partner's and was able to ask them questions about their career. Through networking and interning, the internship contributed to my professional goals of attending law school and becoming an attorney. I can apply what I learned through other professional work opportunities, applications to law school, assignments in law, and eventually, my career as an attorney.

The internship connects to previous internships and professional opportunities that I had, especially those that were related to the legal field. The biggest connections are always networking and meeting legal professionals who are eager to assist and be a guiding resource for me. A trend in a lot of the professional experiences I have had would be the opportunity to shadow professionals. I've always found shadowing valuable because not only do you get a first hand experience, but it also allows you to form an opinion through observation and discover what you do and don't like about a position, event, or job. Overall, the internship has positively impacted my aspirations of attending law school and given me another legal experience to positively shape my ambitions and professional expertise as a pre-law scholar.
