Community Engagement Intern at Hummingbird Firm

As a Fall 2025 Community Engagement Intern at Hummingbird Firm, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to advancing community engagement, strategy, data analytics, and systems change training, I have the opportunity to support development projects across the environmental, energy, and transportation sectors. In this role, I collaborate closely with internal teams and clients, taking detailed meeting notes, contributing insights to strategy discussions, and assisting in the planning and execution of stakeholder events and exhibits. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how meaningful engagement shapes sustainable development and equitable decision-making.

A key aspect of my role involves conducting research on industry best practices to strengthen our firm’s approach to community engagement and project implementation. I also assist with ensuring the quality control of deliverables, reviewing materials for clarity, accuracy, and impact before they are shared with our partners and clients. This has allowed me to develop a strong attention to detail and an appreciation for how communication and design intersect in professional consulting work.

Additionally, I work alongside technical staff to produce polished project reports and engagement materials that effectively communicate complex data and strategies to diverse audiences. This collaboration has enhanced my ability to translate analytical insights into accessible, actionable information. Through this internship, I’ve gained valuable experience at the intersection of community engagement, research, and strategic planning.
