Career Development: Atlanta City Council President Candidate Forum, Class of 2027

During the Atlanta City Council President Candidate Forum featuring Rohit Malhotra, I had the opportunity to witness local politics in action and gain firsthand insight into how civic leadership shapes communities. Hearing Malhotra discuss issues like affordable housing, public safety, and civic innovation provided a deeper understanding of how policy decisions impact everyday life in Atlanta—especially in historically underrepresented neighborhoods. As a Political Science major and Vice President of the Spelman College Democrats, this experience was both inspiring and affirming. It reminded me why civic engagement is so vital, particularly for young people who are eager to see tangible change in their communities. The forum allowed me to analyze campaign strategies, messaging, and the challenges that come with balancing progressive values with pragmatic governance. I was also able to connect with other student leaders and local organizers, sparking meaningful conversations about how students can help bridge the gap between political institutions and the communities they serve. This event was more than just a learning experience—it was a moment of professional growth. It challenged me to think critically about what type of leader I want to become and how to use my platform to elevate civic participation among my peers. Attending this forum reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in public service and showed me that leadership begins with listening, understanding, and standing firmly for equity and representation. I am pictured in the blue and white striped shirt engaging with attendees following the candidate Q&A session.
