Career Counseling Advising Session with Braven Leadership Coach +2 (Kathya Lavado-Arrington, Class of 2028)

My career counseling advising session with my Braven Leadership Coach was held on September 18, at 6:00 PM on a Google Meet call. I had an amazing conversation with my Leadership Coach discussing my Braven Career Roadmap Assignment, which had a plan of how I was going to achieve my career goal through my matriculation at Spelman College. I had a chance to not only speak about the career path, which is digital marketing and media, but also about the other career paths that I am looking at pursuing, such as journalism and education. After speaking with my Leadership Coach about my fear of not having an exact idea of what career path I want to pursue after college, she gave me insight on obtaining different internships during the summer to explore my options and see which one is most fulfilling to me.

As for next steps, my leadership coach and I talked about multiple next steps. Regarding certifications, I will try to get my Google Analytics certifications during winter break when I have free time to progress my data literacy skills. I am also planning to look into two specific internships: Atlanta Hawks Brand Communications HBCU and Pathways Internship, Smithsonian Museum Public Affairs/Communications Intern. These opportunities will help me further explore my interest in marketing and communications.

Overall, this conversation reassured me that it is okay to not be fixed on one career path yet, emphasizing the importance of internships during my journey to discovery. I now understand how to strategically look for and apply to different opportunities that will contribute to my career interests and future.
