Bailey Johnson - Leadership Role in a Academic Organization 3 Points
Serving as Co-Publicity Chair for the Spelman Society of Cosmetics has been one of the most creative and fulfilling experiences of my college journey. In this role, I’m responsible for shaping how our organization connects with its audience — from designing engaging graphics and promotional materials to managing our social media presence. I create a monthly newsletter that highlights upcoming events, beauty tips, and member spotlights, and I cover all of our social events in real time so our community can share in the excitement.
This position has taught me the power of visual storytelling and consistency in building a brand. Every post, design, or caption is an opportunity to showcase the confidence, creativity, and sisterhood that define our organization. I’ve learned how to balance aesthetics with strategy — creating content that not only looks good but also resonates with our members and followers.
Working in this role has also strengthened my collaboration and time management skills. Coordinating with other executive board members to ensure that our messaging aligns with our mission has shown me how impactful teamwork can be when everyone brings their unique strengths to the table.
More than anything, being Co-Publicity Chair has reminded me that communication is about connection. Whether through a beautifully designed flyer or a quick Instagram story, my goal is always to make people feel seen, inspired, and part of something vibrant. I plan to carry these lessons forward into my future career — continuing to merge creativity with community in everything I do.
