Attending Professional Networking Events (3 Pts)

I attended the Atlanta Law School Forum presented by LSAC. I had the opportunity to network with other pre-law scholars and admissions faculty at a plethora of law school students. The main goal of the event was to connect and provide undergraduate students or recent graduates with information about law schools, admissions, student life, and more. The activity reaffirmed my desire to attend law school and gave me resources to utilize when preparing to apply for law school. I found it exciting asking questions tailored to my desires and criteria about what I would like out of a law school. Questions such as, "How many sections are in each class? And how large are your sections?" "How are students considered for financial aid and scholarships?" and "Where do your graduates live after completing law school?"

The key points that I took away from the Law School Forum was the importance of asking questions, authenticity, and being eager and engaging with the faculty members. Asking questions is important when gauging interest in a school and connecting with admissions faculty. Because of the questions I asked, admissions directors were able to relay information tailored to my interests. Furthermore, bringing my authentic self to the table allowed me to find personal connections and anecdotes to share. Lastly, I believe my eagerness to engage with the faculty was reciprocated and made me feel even more comfortable connecting and networking.

One of the strengths of the event was the check-in system that each law school had. I used my LSAC account to check in virtually and I am now noted in their system and have been receiving email correspondence about applications, events, and more. A weakness from the event was the organization of people waiting to speak to certain schools. Because of the popularity of some of the law schools, there were often lines of people waiting to speak to admissions faculty. This caused traffic issues and for some schools to be overlooked. Having larger spaces for these schools or guidelines over how many people can wait at a table at one time could have managed the traffic there. Altogether, the event had a positive impact on my aspirations of attending law schools and I have made sure to connect with the faculty that I met and follow up on our conversations at the fair.
