On October 2, 2025, I had the honor to connect with three professionals from Disney to hear about technical internships for the summer of 2026. LaJoy Mercer and Amy Sanchez led this call, both Technical Recruiters at Disney, and Morgan Lee, a Software Engineer Intern and recent Spelman College graduate. This call was designed specifically for AUC students and gave insight into Disney’s internship programs, like Disney on the Yard, which are targeted towards HBCU students. We were informed about the different locations and branches interns can work at and the experience we would gain from each field. There was ample time for questions after the presentation, and we then learned about what skills Disney looks for in an application. This call gave me the confidence to apply for bigger roles even when they aren’t designated for freshmen. Throughout the call, the panelists encouraged the participants to apply and see what happens. When they told their stories about how they got from college to their positions at Disney, it all started with them taking a chance on themselves. This activity has influenced my goals by changing how I apply to internships. This Zoom inspired me to stop telling myself no and just to apply - the worst that can happen is that they say no.
