Attending a conference (3 points)

This summer, I attended the National Medical Association Conference in Chicago. This conference took place over the course of five days, where mostly African-American doctors networked and presented their latest research findings in their respective fields. I attended the dermatology session, where I was able to learn about the vast new research and academic advancements in the dermatological field! I was able to connect with many people, from engaged peers to medical students and professionals (and several Spelman alumna!) I also got to talk to different medical schools and companies. This conference was unique in bringing together Black doctors from so many different walks of life. The conference was even more important in the current context of the world, when professionals are being stunted and silenced due to the inability to "push diversity". I would definitely encourage any Pre-medical students to attend this annual conference if they ever get the chance. The opportunity to network with top Black professionals was definitely invaluable.
