Attended screening of sinners(co'2029) Nyabinghi Irving

On Saturday, September 6th, I attended a screening of sinners for my IBQC. After watching we had a discussion about things that stood out to us during the movie. I had seen it multiple times before hand, but I was able to learn a few things that I hadn't noticed before based on other peoples observations. I didn't realize before that Smoke and Stacks names were biblical references, and that led to me finding more references when I did further research on it for my reflection that I wrote for it aa few days later. We later talked about the one drop rule and how Mary was considered one of them while acting as a while woman in every day life. Talking about that made me wonder how she was able to do that, because in order to be considered white as someone with even a little bit of a relation to black people, you'd have to move states away where no one knew your name. We never hear if her mom moved to their town from her home or if she's from there, so I talked about that after the movie and tried to make sense of it. I really enjoyed the conversation and listening to people connect things in the movie to other forms of media that I hadn't thought of beforehand.
