Amya Barnes - Attending "Ask Dr. Hite" Event (2-3 points)

I attended the "Ask Dr. Hite" event in the Honors Lounge on October 15. It was a very enlightening conversation with Dr. Hite and other members of the Honors Program. Not only did Dr. Hite answer questions about the Honors Program and how to submit Habits of Mind, but she also brought in two guest speakers, who she taught in the past, and had them speak to us about their experience in the Honors Program and being students at Spelman College in general. The group conversation that we had was inspiring and made me rethink about what I need to be doing to enhance my future. One of Dr. Hite's guest speakers talked about how she came to Spelman knowing what she wanted to do after she graduated but by her second year she was lost and didn't know what her next steps were. She was very vulnerable about her journey and told us that it is normal to not have everything figured out in college and that it is okay to reroute to find what you are passionate about. This resonated with me in a big way because I was undecided when I came to Spelman and had no idea what I wanted to do. Now I am a junior and am on the path to graduate with a bachelors in Psychology. I really appreciated the discussion that we had because it made me feel less alone and made me realize that everyone is on a different path and have their own struggles. It is okay to take time in figuring out what you want to do but utilize the resources at Spelman College to help you make that decision.
