Amaya Hall- Responsible Conduct of Research Training
On Saturday, October 11th, 2025, I attended an All-Day workshop focused on training and highlighting the importance of responsible conduct throughout mentor relationships, authorship, human research, and animal research. With interest in doing research at Spelman, this was highly advised as it gives you a full view of the research experience. Led by Dr. Celina Hones, Ph.D (Emory University), this intensive workshop gave participants a strong ethical base when either pursuing a research opportunity or a degree. The day was broken up into 6 case studies, each case study was examined with group work to signify the importance of collaboration and mutual respect needed within the research community.
My interest in research lies in human-based research. Interview-wise, this workshop gave an amazing foundation to Spelman's Instutional Review Board and the requirements needed for me to pursue my goal in psychology-based research. My perspective on research changed through this event and broadened my mind to so much more than just analytical data. My new definition of a successful research group focuses on using multiple documentation methods, having important mentee-mentor relationships, and following NIH, IRB, and IUCAC.
