Tutoring Job - Hayden Hubert

 Tutoring Job

Hayden Hubert

Earlier this semester, my dance professor asked me to come to one of her rehearsals because she thought my physics background (being a physics major) could help her with an issue she was encountering in her choreography. After helping her that day, one of the young ladies from the rehearsal reached out to me, saying that there was an opportunity for a job in physics. She set me up with a former tutor of hers, and I began working with the tutor as a physics tutor!

This opportunity has been extremely fruitful. Not only does it lift some of the financial burdens I encounter in college, but it also strengthens my own physics skills and allows me to help others. In my journey throughout college, it has felt that I have been employed in advancing myself since I am working towards my own degree, which almost feels too self-involved for my liking. But tutoring has given me the opportunity to serve someone other than myself. Community service also gives me this opportunity, but serving kids in the realm of academia has given me an additional sense of purpose in obtaining my physics degree.

Overall, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a tutor and to be able to feel like the education I am gaining is also going towards my community. Being a tutor has encouraged me to be more reflective on my life and all the opportunities I have been graciously afforded.
