Deepening Skills in Data Analysis through Innovative Research

Alternative Title : Completing an Internship

For the past few months, I had the opportunity to serve as a researcher for the 44 New Voices project, a student-driven, faculty-guided initiative presented by the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. The project’s mission is to identify and amplify diverse voices in media, news, public affairs, and civic commentary—helping to reshape whose perspectives are heard in the public square.

In my role, I contributed to multiple parts of the research process. I helped refine the project’s research rubric, which improved how we evaluate creators and strengthened the credibility of our selections. I also conducted creator analysis, drafted interview scripts, and reviewed submissions, applying both data-driven analysis and cultural context to ensure that creators fit the project’s goals of authenticity and impact. This experience sharpened my research and data analysis skills while also building new competencies in digital-age practices like influencer market analysis and content evaluation.

Beyond technical skills, this role strengthened my systems-based thinking—I learned to see how small decisions fit into a larger strategy—and reminded me of the importance of disciplined execution in collaborative projects.

I am especially grateful to my supervisor, Ryann Phillips, for her guidance, and to the AUC Data Science Center, particularly Jamal Ware, whose earlier support prepared me to succeed in this role. I am so happy to share the live link to our creator list, which will continue to grow as more interviews are released.
